NY Documentary Center

The New York Documentary Center

The New York Documentary Center was founded in 1997 to provide the public with an ongoing series of programs exploring all facets of non-fiction documentary making, past, present and future. Activities tailored to the evolving needs of documentary makers will establish The New York Documentary Center as a vital clearinghouse for resources and information, as well as a crossroads where documentary makers meet and exchange ideas. The Center seeks to grow the audience for non-fiction film and video by showcasing outstanding works the public has not otherwise seen, including important overlooked documentaries and those that have successfully made the rounds of international film festivals but remain out of sight due to absence of distribution.

The New York Documentary Center Difference

Since its inception, The New York Documentary Center has championed a unique screening format that has become the hallmark of our organization.

Every screening presented in The New York Documentary Center programs, is followed by a 45 - 60 minute panel discussion with the filmmaker, film subject(s),

and often additional guests or relevant experts in the field. Additionally, after each discussion there is a meet-the-panel reception which offers the audience the opportunity to personally interact with our special guests. It is our belief that these components offer invaluable insights into the world of documentary filmmaking and the world around us. We continue to utilize this format in all of our new monthly programs.

The tangible intimacy of The New York Documentary Center programs is a combined result of our thoughtful and innovative programming, high standard of film selection, first class screening venues, and most importantly, the

personal detailed attention that is given to both our participating filmmakers and our audience.
