The Color Of Music: david hockney and the opera - For the past 25 years, David Hockney has been one of the most widely discussed and documented artists of his generation. He has been the subject of more than two hundred solo exhibitions and participated in over two hundred group shows.

What is less well known is that at the heart of his visionary power lies a deep and abiding passion for music. Not since Picasso, has a painter directed his creative energy into stage design with such dedication and impact. Through his use of lighting and color, David Hockney's innovations transform Opera into a magical experience. He has redefined the way we see and hear opera, setting a standard for challenging opera design.

Ironically, Hockney is going deaf due to a congenital hearing condition. His keen awareness that each production may be his last invests this footage with an immediacy and emotion that can be felt palpably. Numerous films have captured Hockney's originality and prolific artistic accomplishments, but The Color Of Music shows a rare and intimate portrait of Hockney's private passion - designing for the opera stage.

Sumo East And West - In Japan sumo is not only the national sport but a centuries-old cultural treasure. Yet this highly traditional world is facing profound changes due to the postwar influx of foreign images, ideas, and influences - foremost among them the arrival of bigger, heavier wrestlers of Polynesian decent.

"Sumo East And West" takes us into this world through the story of Wayne Vierra of Hawaii, who is determined to break through the pro-Japanese grip of the sport. This stirring, in-depth look at this often-closed world also features the Hawaii-born superstars of pro sumo who were at the forefront of the controversial transformation of the sport: Konishiki, Jesse "Takamiyama" Kuhaulua, and Akebono (the first non-Japanese sumo wrestler to reach the exalted rank of yokozuna, or grand champion).
